THE BOY BATHING |
 |
In a world where every pseudo-sensitive coffee shop guy with a guitar seems to think his plight and frustration are worth a listen, it is sometimes difficult to find an honest voice. Brooklyn based, The Boy Bathing, on their second trip to Wichita—through two sets at two different locations—would quell that thought for myself and much of their audience.

HYPER CRUSH |
 |
I am 27. Which is not an old age by any stretch of the imagination. That being said, I can say that the evening of August 3rd when Hyper Crush, Brokencyde and And Then There Were None came to the Oz Café I felt I should have been nursing an Ensure® rather than my PBR afterwards.

Year: 1975 YOU’RE MY BEST FRIEND Queen
After moving and making new friends in a new neighborhood, I would meet Spencer Cusick and his family. His friendship shaped the next fifteen years of my life by boosting up my talents, redirecting my fears and introducing me to the cool kids, a wonderful cast of characters I would have never had met had it not been for my best friend.

Mindless |
 |
Walking into the Cotillion, I had no idea what to expect from New York insano-punk band Mindless Self Indulgence. When I was assigned to cover the show, I vaguely remembered having heard of them, but knew absolutely nothing about them or their music. A little research revealed that they were loud, crass, rude, controversial, unexplainably popular, and had a sound no one could quite describe – everything a punk band should be.

Seasons After |
 |
I don’t know if it is possible to “rock out” before the sun has even begun to set, but the CD release show of Seasons After hoped to disprove that thought. Set up at Club Liquid on June 14, the all-ages show started at 3:30 p.m. and would end right as the sun was setting.

Mwa-ha-ha: Friday the 13th gala with the Calamity Cubes and White Ghost Shivers |
 |
It’s not every day you get to take a trip back into the turn of the 20th century. A time when men wore nice suits and always had a hat. A time when women wore pantaloons and layers upon layers of dress. A time when vaudeville was all the rampage and people paid to be entertained by theatrical pursuits.

The Sword |
 |
Monday nights are not usually a night when Wichita gets rocked into having a sore neck the next morning at work from all the hair-whips and head banging. Barleycorn’s welcomed The Sword, Children and Black Gasoline onApril 28 and ensured that the ringing in your ears and tightness in your neck was going to be well worth it,

Kae Wun |
 |
Kae Wun is out to change the perception of Wichita hip-hop.
“Nationally, the Midwest is not respected,” exclaimed the charismatic hip-hop artist. “I’m out to not only put Wichita on the map, but the Midwest, as well.” Fueled by his new songs “Do What You Do” and “Hercules,” he may do just that.

KFDI Listener Appreciation Show at Koch Arena |
 |
I don’t consider myself a country fanatic, but I’ll admit: I do have a couple presets in my car tuned to country stations. Occasionally I break into song — and I know all the words to every Tanya Tucker song (ahem, sorry). I’m by no means a redneck woman, but I certainly wanted to bust out the cowboy boots after my experience at the 37th-annual KFDI Listener Appreciation Show. Especially after seeing Rodney Atkins from the angle I did.

LAST NIGHT A DJ SAVED MY LIFE |
 |
Let’s talk about happiness.
We all know there’s a difference between simply being content, and being truly happy, right? We all say “fine” when asked how we are, but how do you respond when someone asks you if you are truly happy?
